Safe On Campus Peer Education Program (SOC/PEP)
College students educating high school students about sexual assault, alcohol, hazing, and crime in college.
College life can be dangerous. It shouldn’t be, but it can be. In the Safe on Campus program, college students come into high schools and talk about college social life, going to parties, and dating. These are things that everyone knows are fun, but may not know can spin out of control. Hear from your peers what goes on, and how to watch for the warning signs that we all need to know about to stay Safe on Campus.
Here is what students and teachers say who have learned how to be Safe On Campus:
High School Students Say:
- “Thank you for teaching us effective ways to protect ourselves at school.”
- “This was a great program. I learned a lot that I did not know about sexual assault.”
High School Teachers Say:
- “What a fabulous program! I have never seen anything like it. My students really responded to the (college student) presenters.”
- “I wanted to thank you and the peers for putting on such wonderful programs for us. I must say that the quality of the program and the professionalism and expertise of your staff and presenters were better than ever this year. I look forward to working with you next Spring.”
College Student Peer Educators say:
- “I really enjoyed being a peer educator for Security On Campus. I had a great time connecting with kids about an important topic on a level that they can be very excited about, listen and learn from.”
- “Being a college student and having my own experiences with sexual assault, I find great importance in conveying the situations that students might find themselves in, and the risks involved in these situations. I also think that having a college student, a peer in a sense, talking to high school students about these problems can help significantly, because they can see someone who has gone through what they are about to go through.”
